This is my signature piece. It has been awarded Best of Show and Blue Ribbons in many competitions. Setting the scene: It was late and the small parking lot was empty. As I walked around back to the docks I could see there wasn’t a soul in sight except for a majestic Great Blue Heron standing on a piling and looking for all the world like he was waiting for me to arrive! The sun was almost down, but a little of that soft golden light was still on the horizon and falling around the landmark fishing shanty and across the back of the Great Blue. I only got one shot before he turned and looked straight at me then flew away.
