I arrived at Venice Rookery before the sun even came up. As I made my way around in the dim light, my eyes focused on a dead tree along the bank that had partially fallen into the water. The sun was beginning to come up and the longer I stood there I started to make out some movement and suddenly the silhouettes of three birds appeared to me on the dead branches.
